Smartphones 'opening doors to social media' Expert claims rise of smartphones is increasing use of social media.
Companies looking to use social media to host video productions could benefit from the rise in popularity of smartphones, it has been suggested.
According to Jennifer L Jacobson, director of public relations at electronics website Retrevo.com and an author on social media, smartphones, such as the iPhone, are bringing social media to areas of the market that would otherwise be inaccessible.
In addition, the devices mean social websites such as YouTube are now available to consumers while on the move.
"Not only are smartphones opening doors into social media in emerging markets, where people might not be able to afford or have the stability of desktop or laptop computers, they're also making social media ultra-portable," she commented.
"This portability is part of what makes social media so available and at times addictive."
It follows a recent statement by smartpone maker Sony Ericsson that it forecasts a continued rise in the popularity of social networking from mobile devices this summer as people look to keep in touch while on holiday.
