Schools must embrace new technology, expert claims

Photo for this news articleTechnology, such as educational video productions, should be used more regularly in the classroom, claims expert.

Schools should use new technology, such as educational video productions, to enhance the learning experience, it has been claimed.

According to leading educationalist Professor Stephen Heppell, there is an increasing gap between schools that embrace new technology and those that do not, the BBC reports.

Speaking at this year's BETT conference, the world's biggest educational technology show, Professor Heppell outlined how new technology can be integrated into the school system.

"We have to get away from the 35 minute timetable blocks. We need to reconfigure schools for a week of immersion in numeracy and dress the school for a learning production," he said.

He warned that if schools do not make changes they could find more children rejecting education.

"Children in the future will have choices about where and how they learn and if schools aren't enticing, pupils won't come," he said.

A filter that allows schools to safely incorporate video productions from streaming site YouTube was recently launched.

The Bloxx Media Filter allows teachers to select relevant videos which can then be streamed to pupils' PCs with related video clips, without contextual advertising or user submitted comments being displayed.ADNFCR-2863-ID-19563682-ADNFCR
