Rise in video production popularity helps blinkx increase revenue by 140% Video search engine records 140 per cent rise in revenue for last financial year.
A surge in the popularity of online video productions has helped video search engine blinkx boost revenue.
The company has reported that, for the financial year ending March 31st, revenue was up by 140 per cent compared to the year before, while gross profit rose by a similarly impressive 123 per cent.
blinkx's success has been down to a massive increase in visitors over the past year as the more and more people begin to use online video.
"In the past 12 months, blinkxs traffic has surged 204 per cent in the UK, making us the second fastest growing video site after Facebook," said Suranga Chandratillake, founder and chief executive of blinkx
"The number of videos viewed over the internet in the UK has shot up 37 per cent over the same time period."
This in turn has enabled the site to greatly increase its income from marketers, with the company reporting a 112 per cent rise in the number of brands advertising on the site.
Since launching in 2005 blinkx has indexed 35 million hours of video.
