MySpace launches online video app A new app from MySpace encourages users to discover new online video productions.
MySpace has launched a new app aimed at offering user-tailored online video productions.
The MySpace Music Romeo application allows users to select from 15 genres and 13 moods including "chill", "naughty" and "studying" before playing the videos in an automatic, random order, interspersed with artist images and an advertisement every 15 minutes or so, the Associated Press reported.
In addition, users can choose to "love" videos in order to get more of the kinds they select, though they will not be able to search for specific songs.
The move comes as MySpace aims to position itself as a specialist music site rather than a catch-all social networking platform.
MySpace Music president Courtney Holt argued that the randomness of the Romeo app will allow users to discover new artists via their online video productions.
"Inevitably if you use this application, you will find an artist that you've never heard of before that you will fall in love with," he said.
The app is available free on the Apple iPad and as an application that can be played from computer web browsers.
