Internet video productions are 'about Flash' Video streaming website backs Adobe's Flash media player.
Adobe's Flash media player is still the most important format for streaming internet video productions, it has been claimed.
Andrew Pile, vice president of products at video sharing site Vimeo, has said Flash is still number one, despite some companies, such as Apple, ditching the format.
Speaking to USA Today, Mr Pile said: "Right now, internet video is about Flash. That's all there is to it. If you want to see video online, it's in Flash. It works on every kind of computer and browser."
His comments follow Apple's decision to not provide support for Flash on its new iPad tablet computer.
Instead the company is backing HTML5, a format that allows videos to be hosted by a user's internet browser. However, as yet, not all browsers support the new format.
Mr Pile, whose company has trialled HTML5 on its website, said: "Bringing everyone around to HTML5 is going to be a huge leap. I don't see Flash going away any time soon."
Earlier this month, social media expert Pete Cashmore, writing for CNN, said Apple's refusal to incorporate flash "ultimately confuses users".
