Increased broadband speed could boost internet video production Last year saw an average increase of 22 per cent in broadband speed, report claims.
Companies using internet video productions could find they are capable of reaching a bigger audience as a new report revealed that average broadband speeds grew in 2009.
Research by broadband.co.uk shows that broadband speeds increased by 22 per cent on average last year.
Based on speed tests taken on the broadband.co.uk site by ordinary broadband users UK wide, it was found that the average speeds at the end of the year was 4.478Mbps, up from 3.667Mbps at the start of 2009.
There was however a discrepancy in speed between different broadband providers.
"The providers that show stagnation are those who haven't rolled out new higher speed products during the last year, so we'll watch with interest as to how they respond to competition over the course of 2010," said broadband.co.uk editor Edd Dawson.
In December, a study by online video analysts Tube Mogul found that slow or jerky videos nearly always lead to visitors leaving a site.
It said that in instances of rebuffering (when a video pauses to re-load content) 81.2 per cent of the time visitors clicked off the site rather than waiting for it to re-start.
