Increase in global internet speed could help online video production World's internet download speeds increased by 13 per cent last year, says a new report.
Internet speeds are increasing as a global average, a new report has shown.
According to the State of the Internet report by Akamai Technologies for the third quarter of 2009, the average download rate across the globe increased by 13 per cent during 2009 to 1.7 Mbps.
Out of the top ten fastest connected countries, the majority also saw their speeds increase for the quarter.
The news will be welcomed by those who use online video production as greater internet speeds will allow them to reach a larger audience.
Britain, however, performed slightly disappointingly in the study, coming it at 26th on the list of countries with the fastest download speeds, with an average of 3.5Mbps.
South Korea was found to be the best connected country with an average speed of 14.6 Mbps, with Japan in second. Sweden was the top of the European nations with 5.7 Mbps.
Britain's performance will come as a let-down after a recent study by Broadband.co.uk showed that speeds in the country increased by 22 per cent on average last year.
