IAB launches social media education programme Course aims to teach marketers new to social media about the industry.
Companies looking to create video productions for social media sites such as YouTube could benefit from a new education programme launched by a leading trade body.
The Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) Social Media Council has established a five-month course aimed at marketing managers new to social media.
It will seek to teach them about the realities of the industry in the face of what it claims is a growing number of self-proclaimed 'experts' offering bogus advice.
Tony Effik, chair of the council said: "The IAB Social Media Council is not only about growing social media in the UK, but also about ensuring that, as it expands, we ensure its professionalism.
"We do this against the backdrop of continuously encountering people with little or no experience claiming to be experts in social media."
Social media has become an increasingly popular medium for sharing information on the web.
It was recently announced that social networking site Facebook has overtaken Google as the number one source for news on the internet according to research from Hitwise.
