Google boosts video production capabilities with new purchase Episodic, an US video hosting site, has been bought by Google.
Video productions on Google-owned YouTube could benefit from the company's purchase of US company Episodic.
The video hosting service has been bought by the search engine giant, its fifth acquisition of the year.
Episodic allows its customers to stream live and on-demand video as well as giving them control over advertisements and a range of analytical tools to give them information on viewers.
It is possible Google is hoping to incorporate some of these properties into YouTube as it seeks ways to make the video streaming site profitable.
Episodic co-founders Noam Lovinsky and Matias Cudich announced the news on the firm's blog.
"From our earliest discussions with Google, it was clear that the teams shared this belief and together we obviously see huge potential in online video," they said.
"Our product visions were also complementary and together we will continue to produce innovative video technology for our customers and their viewers."
Last week YouTube rolled-out a redesigned video player web page designed to be more user friendly.
