Educational video productions on YouTube take off YouTube sees increase in number of subscribers to educational channels.
New figures reveal that educational video productions on YouTube have become a popular resource for teachers and pupils.
According to the video streaming site, more than half a million people are now subscribed to YouTube EDU channels.
In addition, since October 2009 the number of videos on the educational platform have risen 89 per cent and the number of channels 77 per cent.
The website has announced that it will now start creating playlists for educational videos.
Each week, YouTube will post a new playlist centred around a topic.
For example, the first playlist is on the study of matter and its motion through space and time.
"While summer often provides a welcome respite for students, we know that some are looking for ways to keep their brains active over the break," said Mandy Albanese, YouTube's communications associate, via the site's blog.
"If you want to keep those math formulas fresh and foreign languages top-of-mind, this could be the stuff that gives you a leg up on the non-YouTubers in your class come the fall."
It was recently reported by New Media Age that Piers Morgan is to launch an online TV programme aimed at young people.
