Could new BlackBerry tablet provide video production opportunities?

Photo for this news articleBlackBerry has revealed a new tablet computer called the PlayBook.

The launch of a new tablet PC from BlackBerry could provide opportunities for firms using online video productions.

Called the PlayBook, the new device includes specs that could make it a prime platform for video viewing, even more so than the current market leader the Apple iPad.

The PlayBook is capable of displaying high definition video in H264, MPEG, DivX and WMV formats.

It also features a 1GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM - superior to that of the iPad - and comes with a seven-inch 1024 x 600 resolution screen.

Commenting on the device, online video expert Jeremy Scott wrote in an article for ReelSEO.com that the PlayBook has "specs that appear, on the surface, to make this device much more palatable and appealing to video creators and marketers than the iPad was."

"It has most everything I think a video fan needs, particularly those things that the iPad does not have," he added.

The device will have some way to go to meet the success of the iPad, however, which sold three million units in its first 80 days.
