Conservatives promise 100mbps broadband Tories promise high-speed broadband as part of technology manifesto.
Companies that use online video productions could find more of the population have access to their content if Conservative plans for superfast broadband go ahead.
The party has released its manifesto on technology in which it promises to make the UK the first country in Europe to roll-out 100mbps broadband for "most of the population".
"This is up to 50 times faster than Labour's planned broadband network," it said.
However, Andrew Ferguson, editor of broadband news service ThinkBroadband.com, was sceptical of whether the scheme would be necessary or not.
"If both parties did nothing, the UK is likely to have 100mpbs available via cable to 50 per cent of homes in 2012," he said.
His comments are backed up by a recently released report by ABI Research which found that demand for broadband has increased despite the recession.
Fixed broadband service revenue totalled $164 billion (£110 billion) in 2009, an increase from $145 billion (£97 million) in the previous year, the research firm said.
