Channel 4 News to increase online video productions

A shift in focus of Chanel 4 News's website will see it expand the use of video productions and other media content.

The broadcaster is shifting its strategy away from providing breaking news towards greater in-depth analysis, New Media Age reports.

It hopes the increase in video productions and other multimedia will lead to visitors spending longer on the site.

Vicky Taylor, new media commissioning editor for news and current affairs at Channel 4, said the company does not have the resources to compete with larger media organisations such as the BBC when it comes to providing 24-hour breaking news.

She told the news provider: "We have to be realistic about what we can do and where we can be different. What we do have is a wealth of talent around in-depth subjects and the enthusiasm to drive things out."

Channel 4 is one of the several major content providers signed up to Project Canvas, which aims to establish a platform for screening online video over via television sets.
