A redesigned website for Channel 4 News has been launched, with video production playing an important role.

The new site aims to shift the focus of new coverage away from breaking stories towards in-depth analysis.

It also makes extensive use of social media and video productions.

The new site will feature Twitter feeds and blogs from the programme's presenters and journalists, such as Jon Snow and Krishnan Guru Murthy, as well as a variety of videos that will also be viewable on the iPad, iPhone and the Android 2.2 operating system.

"We know that our viewers strongly identify with some of the core values of our programme - they see Channel 4 News as challenging, distinctive and, at times, a little bit mischievous," said Vicky Taylor, Channel 4's commissioning editor for new media, news and current affairs.

"What we wanted to do was ensure that these defining characteristics also shape our online output."

Earlier this month, Channel 4 appointed former BBC1 controller Jay Hunt as its new chief creative officer.
