Australian politicians use video productions to win over voters Australia's Liberal and Labor parties are using social media as part of election campaigns.
YouTube video productions are playing an important role in campaigning for the upcoming Australian general election.
Both incumbent Prime Minister Julia Gillard of the Labor Party and leader of the opposition Liberal Party Tony Abbott have turned to YouTube video productions and a host of other social media to win voters.
Ms Gillard's efforts include Twitter updates and the posting of a short video on the Labor Party website, with a link to YouTube, speaking after a televised press conference, the Brisbane Times reports.
Meanwhile, the Liberal Party have stated it intends to upload a new campaign ad onto YouTube in the near future.
Ross Monaghan, a social media researcher at Deakin University, told the news provider that this shows "parties are being much more sophisticated in their use of social media".
"They are using the power of social media to gather support for particular issues and to motivate members to get out there and work for the party," he commented.
Ms Gillard replaced Kevin Rudd as the country's prime minister and Labor leader on June 24th and called a snap election just four weeks later.
